Can Recycling Crew

Details
Take aluminum cans that were donated to the shelter to be recycled. Should be willing to haul one load per week.  Money is used to help our homeless animals. Contact us if you are willing to help!

Tops Register Receipts Collector

Details
Take a Tops Register Receipt Collection Can to work.  Cans are available at the shelter.  Receipts can be counted and bundled in packs of $20,000 worth or returned uncounted.    Bring in receipts to the shelter.

Dog Care Specialist

Details
Our hours are 10-12 noon (closed Friday a.m.) and 5-7:00 p.m. DAILY We ESPECIALLY need people who can let the dogs out and feed them in the morning Monday through Friday. You can come as early as 8:00 a.m.( this could take an hour or two). Dog obedience using the techniques taught by professional dog trainer. Dog walking, kennel maintenance, general shelter duties

Cat Care Specialist

Cleaning Crew Animal Shelter

Details
Perfect for somebody who doesn't necessarily want to HANDLE the animals but wants to help them by keeping their home clean! Chores include washing runs, cages, floors, walls, clothes, general cleaning and vacuuming rugs. A clean shelter is a HEALTHY shelter!

Skills
General housekeeping skills required. We need volunteers who can come in on a consistent basis - even one hour a week, days preferred.

Publicity

Details
For a person who wants to help animals but doesn't want to WORK WITH animals, this is a great opportunity. The volunteer would deliver flyers advertising our events and ask business owners to post them in their windows. Our flyers can go to the schools in the Parma area, pet stores, vet offices, businesses in Parma, libraries etc.  Make signs and flyers for special events.

Must come to the shelter and apply to become a volunteer.

 

Fundraising & Publicity

Details
Participate in fundraising events and work together to publicize the shelter and facilitate adoptions.

Skills
Ability to work as a team setting up events, staffing events like spaghetti dinner, night at the races, etc. and distribute flyers etc. for same

Internet Publicity
Details
To post our shelter information regarding events and fundraisers, advertising our home page address and gain public awareness that if you live in or near Parma, Ohio THIS is the place to look if you've lost a pet, would like to adopt one, need to find a home for your pet, want to know how to take care of your pet or, if you would like to volunteer, what volunteers DO at Parma Animal Shelter. Skills
Must have a computer and be internet savvy enough to pass the word about our shelter by posting in message groups and maintaining web pages. Must have the TIME to keep postings and/or pages updated WEEKLY

Receptionist

Details
Greet the public, answer the phone, filing, filling out forms for new animals,  lost and found reports, tours. Reconciling lost and found reports, other clerical duties as needed and doing laundry.

Pleasant manner, good public relations skills, organizational skills, ability to work as a team and follow policies and procedures.

Junior Volunteer  -  Age 15 to 17

Details
No handling of animals  involved. Jr. Volunteers answer phones, do laundry, assist with dog and cat specialists, clean, reconcile lost and found reports and data entry as needed. May also work at special events as needed like car washes.

Skills

Pleasant manner, good public relations skills, organizational skills, ability to work as a team and follow policies and procedures.

Must be 15 or older  and have parent accompany you to the screening interview. Teens work 2 hour shifts during hours  10-12 noon and 5-7 pm. E-mail for an application and interview appointment. webmaster@parmashelter.org

 

On Call Volunteers

If you would like to be a volunteer but are not sure you can keep to a scheduled day or hours, you can be an "on-call volunteer."  Apply for the opportunity you would like to help with.  Then, after you are trained, you will be put on the on-call list to receive an e-mail noting which days there are "holes" in our schedule.  You can also stop by to see if we need help if you have time to spare.

Please note, before you can begin volunteering for Parma Animal Shelter Inc, you must sign a waiver and have your application.  Applications are subject to  approval by the Board of Trustees.  Please e-mail the webmaster when you have submitted your application.  You may be included on the  Volunteers Listbot for shelter messages and be added to the Parma Shelter Inc Volunteers Directory once your application has been approved and you have volunteered 60 days.  Thank you for your interest in our volunteer opportunities!
